# Centaurus coils, how to read and choose a UB Max

> Centaurus coils from Lost Vape, which UB Max to pick, why the X1 is rated 120 W or 100 W depending on the edition, and what its engraving tells you.

Search for **Centaurus coils** and you land on dozens of near identical shop listings. They repeat the same values and the same promised clouds, yet they cannot agree on the top wattage of the lowest of the three. Some say 120 W, others 100 W. I went back to my notebook with Lost Vape's own pages and a handful of retailer listings, to work out where that gap comes from and what is worth checking before pushing in a fresh head.

## Which Centaurus coils to choose, the short answer

Lost Vape's Centaurus Sub Ohm tank, in its first version as well as the V2, runs on **UB Max coils**. The manufacturer lists three of them, the X1 at 0.15 ohm, the X2 at 0.2 ohm and the X3 at 0.3 ohm, all mesh and all meant for direct lung vaping.

Lost Vape also lists them for the Centaurus Q200 kit and the UB Max Pod Tank. On the retail side, two listings add the Centaurus M200 kit, and two others the Centaurus Sub-Coo tank.

The value then follows the power of your mod. The X3 is rated between 40 and 60 W, the X2 between 60 and 80 W, the X1 from 80 W upwards. Not every product carrying the Centaurus name takes a UB Max, though, and that is the most common trap when ordering.

## The three UB Max heads, value by value

Shop listings tend to boil Centaurus coils down to a row of numbers. Laid side by side, the manufacturer's figures say a little more, especially about the wire and about the two editions in circulation.

| Code | Value | Material stated by Lost Vape | Range, UB Max platform | Range, V2 edition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| X1 | 0.15 ohm | Ni80, mesh | 80 to 120 W | 80 to 100 W |
| X2 | 0.2 ohm | Ni80, mesh | 60 to 80 W | 60 to 80 W |
| X3 | 0.3 ohm | Kanthal (KTR), mesh | 40 to 60 W | 40 to 60 W |

Ni80 is a nickel and chromium alloy, kanthal an iron, chromium and aluminium alloy. Mesh means a flat metal grid rather than a wound wire, which spreads the heat across a wider surface.

All three values are built for an open draw, where the vapour is inhaled straight in rather than held in the mouth first. If the difference between a direct lung and a mouth to lung draw is still hazy, I went through it in my piece on [how to inhale a vape](/uk/how-to-inhale-a-vape/).

## 120 W or 100 W, why the X1 has two ceilings

This is the question that started this page. Among the top search results, two listings rate the X1 at 80 to 120 W and two others at 80 to 100 W, and none of them explains why.

Lost Vape itself holds the answer, on two separate pages. The UB Max platform page rates the 0.15 ohm X1 at 80 to 120 W. On the Centaurus Sub Ohm V2 tank page, the 0.15 ohm head is called a "UB Max Coil V2 Edition" and rated at 80 to 100 W. The X2 and X3 ranges do not change from one page to the other.

So one X1 label covers two editions, and the difference only affects the top of the range. The two figures found at retailers therefore match the manufacturer's two pages.

In practice, when the packaging does not state the edition, the range both editions share stops at 100 W. With Centaurus coils of uncertain edition, staying below that line keeps an X1 inside the more cautious of the two ratings.

## Reading the engraving on Centaurus coils before fitting them

The most reliable information is often printed on the part itself rather than on the page selling it. Two details are worth a glance before you reassemble the tank.

### Value, range and wire etched on the body

On the images Lost Vape publishes for the UB Max platform, each head carries its wattage range, its value, its wire and the word mesh on the body. The X3, for example, reads "40-60W", "0.3Ω", "KTR" and "Mesh".

When an X1 carries an engraved range, that range is the one to set the mod by, whatever listing you read. The same habit helps with heads of different values stored together, which look identical once out of their box.

### The 0.4 ohm, a value apart

Two retailers also list a 0.4 ohm UB Max, rated between 30 and 40 W. It appears neither on the platform image published by the manufacturer nor on the Centaurus Sub Ohm V2 page. I note it for reference, without being able to tie it to a specific edition.

## Mod, tank or pod, the Centaurus name does not set the coil

Lost Vape uses the Centaurus name for box mods, tanks and pod devices alike. The coil always depends on the atomiser fitted, never on the name of the mod powering it.

### A Centaurus mod takes whatever the tank on top needs

A regulated box mod imposes no coil, it only supplies the power. Lost Vape describes the Centaurus N100, for instance, as a single battery mod taking one 21700 or 18650 cell, adjustable from 5 to 100 W, with a standard 510 connection.

With a Centaurus Sub Ohm tank on top, part of the first edition X1 range sits out of reach, above 100 W. The V2 edition, on the other hand, fits entirely within that mod's settings. I gathered the choice of device format by profile in [my comparison of the four vape formats](/uk/best-vape/).

### Other Centaurus devices use their own heads

Designed for a tighter mouth to lung draw, the Centaurus Nano MTL tank uses UB MTL coils at 0.8 and 1.2 ohm according to its page. The Centaurus E40 Ultra pod mod takes UB Elite heads, in single or dual mesh. The Centaurus B80, an all-in-one device, takes UB Ultra coils inside its pod, according to two retailers.

None of these three products appears among the hardware Lost Vape pairs with the UB Max. Before ordering replacement Centaurus coils, the exact name of the atomiser matters more than the range name alone. As with the [PockeX by Aspire and its wear parts](/uk/pockex-by-aspire-parts/), the coil is the real consumable, and the right reference is read on the atomiser.

### Tank size in the UK

Lost Vape quotes 5 ml or 3 ml for the Centaurus Sub Ohm V2 depending on the glass fitted, and states that every TPD version holds 2 ml. In the UK, refillable tanks for nicotine e-liquid are capped at 2 ml and nicotine e-liquid at 20 mg/ml in 10 ml bottles, so the TPD version is the one sold here.

## FAQ

A few questions keep coming up in searches about these heads and under retailer listings.

### How do you change the coil on a Centaurus tank?

Empty the tank, unscrew the base, pull out the old head and press the new one firmly into place. Two retailers then advise letting the cotton soak for five to ten minutes after filling. The first setting is best made at the bottom of the engraved range, stepping up gradually.

### Is there a 200 W Centaurus coil?

No. The number 200 belongs to mod names such as the M200 or the Q200, not to a coil. The highest range Lost Vape publishes for a UB Max stops at 120 W.

### Does a UB Max fit the Centaurus Sub-Coo?

Yes, two retailers list the Sub-Coo among the tanks compatible with UB Max heads. The atomiser's own page remains the reference if you have doubts about a specific edition.

### Which e-liquid suits a UB Max coil?

Retailer listings advise a liquid with at least equal parts propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine, and one of them recommends more than 50% glycerine. A thicker liquid generally suits the wide juice ports of sub-ohm heads.

### How many coils come in a UB Max box?

Three with most of the retailers checked. One listing quotes five, so it pays to check the stated pack size before comparing two offers.

## Centaurus coils, the engraving before the label

Behind a range of three heads that looks simple, the UB Max hides two editions, an off-catalogue value and a family name shared with devices that do not take it. The X1 is the clearest example, with a ceiling of 120 W or 100 W depending on the edition.

Before ordering **Centaurus coils**, the right order is to identify the atomiser, read the engraving on the head already fitted, then set the mod within the shared range. It is a way of reading hardware that works for plenty of atomisers besides this one.
